Five reasons to enjoy family vacation with kids in Nagoya
Five reasons to enjoy family vacation in Nagoya especially if you have small children
I recommend Nagoya more than other areas in Japan to enjoy a family trip especially if you have small children. Let’s take a look five reasons include convenience, safeness and more.
Are you planning a family trip to Japan? It might be the first family trip abroad, so you must have a lot of concerns like how to make your children happy, is it easy to travel through Japan, and probably worry about the safeness of its trip.
If you haven’t decided where to go, then, I recommend the third largest city “Nagoya” Here I would like to show you the five reasons why you should pick Nagoya for your family trip!
Reason 1: Children’s favorite amusement spots! ~Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology~
Have you ever experienced be fond of cars and vehicles in your childhood? Well, this will happen probably mostly for boys, but here is the fascinating place for the car lovers. It’s in Nagoya city.
“Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology” is sponsored by TOYOTA Motor Corporation which is internationally famous car brand born in Aichi prefecture. The museum has variety of exhibitions showing its technologies and the history of invention. The children will also enjoy the hands-on display and be able to learn “a spirit of manufacturing”.
There are plenty attractions and activities which kids can join and try; athletic zone and car circuit. It is a lot more fun if you can experience like playing games!
A lot of parents commented about their experiences: “Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology was definitely the most enjoyable experience for our kids.”

Reason 2: Children’s favorite amusement spots!~ Nagoya City Science Museum~
At Nagoya City Science Museum, there is a Guinness record largest planetarium in the world. It has 35m diameter.
Of course the planetarium is wonderful but the other exhibitions and displays are also great. Many of them are hands-on displays so even adults are surprised to find out it is amazingly fun! Unfortunately, all the explanations are only in Japanese so… might be boring for kids if you don’t understand Japanese…
This exhibition is called “Exploring Water”. You can learn the natural alterations and circulations of clouds, rain, river and sea.
The other interesting attractions are like “Deep Freezing Lab” where you can experience a whole-sky image of northern lights (aurora) at -30℃. “Tornado Lab” Observe a 9 meter-high twister with deepen your understanding of tornados through experiments. “Electric Discharge Labo” Bolts of electricity four meters long are discharged together with a roaring crack of electric static from two towering Tesla coils. Watching the bolt twisting around in the air will make you think about the power of electric energy. And a lot more!
Unfortunately all the narrations are in Japanese but I’m sure you are able to understand visually and tactually! There is also an open air park outside the building, so it is great for kids to run around too!

Reason3 : Reasonable admission fee everywhere!
Surprisingly, the admission fee of museums and sightseeing places are cheaper compare to other cities in Japan.
For example the admission fee at Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology is only 500yen for adults and 200yen for children. Incredibly cheap!
Let’s see the other museums on below.

If you are under 15, in most cases you are free of charge and even adults won’t go more than ￥1000. If you are traveling with your family, expenses are important matter but here in Nagoya, it is quite reasonable.
Reason5 : Less people compare to other major city
Nagoya is the third largest city in Japan but I did not feel so crowded in the city centre. I am not sure why, but maybe because the city got a great benefit from TOYOTA which means not many people walks on the streets. Anyway, the streets seem wider and clean everywhere.
If you are traveling with children, to avoid a huge crowd like Shibuya or Shinjuku in Tokyo is important and much stress free. In this point of view, Nagoya is way comfortable to walk around and enjoy sightseeing.
Reason5 : Most of the major sightseeing spots are close from the main station!
To get to Nagoya castle, Atsuta Jingu, Osu Shopping District, Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology and Nagoya City Science Museum are very easy as everything locates within the range of 10km from Nagoya station.
Subways are simple and taxies are reasonable, it is almost half price compare to Tokyo. If you are wondering “Would it be possible to travel with children in Japan?” no worries at all! I think Nagoya is the great place to enjoy your family trip and will welcome you with the warm hospitality.
I hope you enjoyed some information about Nagoya. Compare to Tokyo, I got the impression that Nagoya city is trying to prepare to invite a lot of tourist from abroad. Most of the places are available in English and there are a lot of people welcoming and helping to make your visit comfortable and safe.
Especially if you have small children, Nagoya city is the perfect place to enjoy a family trip!
