Overnight Trip To Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture 2/2
This is continued article from Overnight Trip To Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture 1/2.
Day 2: More Food, More Activities!
7) 9:00〜Having Breakfast
Nagoya is famous for its own breakfast culture. Pay for coffee, tea, or other drinks and light breakfast such as toasts or sandwiches comes without ordering food. This unique culture is called “Morning.”
The most famous cafe offering Morning in Nagoya is Komeda Coffee, Lyon and so on.

Another Nagoya’s famous local food Hitsumabushi is waiting for you in lunch time, so don’t make yourself too stuffed...
8) 10:00〜 Visit Atsuta Jingu Shrine
Atsuta Jingu Shrine is located in just 3 minutes walk from Jingu-Mae Station which is only two stations away from Nagoya Station on Meitetsu Main Line.
This shrine is one of the most important shrines in Japan. You will be amazed by its sacred atmosphere and will find peace in your mind. I recommend visiting there in the morning before it gets crowded with tourists.
There is an over thousand year old camphor tree in the premise.
Getting hungry now? Let’s have lunch!
9) 12:00〜 Another Famous Food In Nagoya: Hitsumabushi!
Hitsumabushi is an another must-eat local food in Nagoya. Grilled and chopped eel comes on top of rice; you mix them in the bowl and/or pour broth over the mixture and eat!
A restaurant called Atsuta Houraiken created Hitsumabushi, and the restaurant is just in front of Atsuta Jingu Shrine. This is not cheap (3,600 yen), but it is definitely worth to pay!
Atsuta Houraiken has several other locations in the city, and one of the others is in the station area. If the one infront of the shrine is packed or has a long waiting line, you can go to the other one in front of the station.
10) 13:00〜 Nagoya Castle
Let’s keep moving after lunch to the castle! From the shrine, walk to Jingu-Nishi Station and take Meijou Line to Shiyakusho (means city hall) Station. You will see famous Nagoya Castle from the station!
You can see inside of the castle including the tower and the former lord’s residencial area. Probably takes about 2 hours to see the whole building and its premise.
You will be amazed its appearance and the view of the city from the castle tower!
11) 15:00〜 Shopping In Osu Shopping Street
Osu Shopping Street is like Akihabara in Tokyo. It is known as one of the three electric town in Japan. From Nagoya Castle, walk back to Shiyakusho Station and take Meijou Line to Kamimaezu Station.
The famous shopping street is only 5 minutes away from the station by walk. You can find clothes, accessories, watches, purses, and so much more in reasonable price! Of course there are many food stands available as well.
There are so many more places I want you to see in Nagoya, but this is the best itinerary I can think of for an overnight trip. If you have anothe day to stay in Nagoya, you can visit Morikoro Park which has Satsuki and May’s House (from the Ghibri movie My Neighbor Totoro) and/or the world’s largest planetarium, etc. Please refer here for recommended itinerary for 2 nights and 3 days trip to Nagoya.
