Ramen, Jinghis Khan, Sweets. Northern food you should definitely eat in Sapporo
Hokkaido is the northernmost prefecture in Japan.
It’s surrounded by ocean and is blessed with nature, so the food there is very good.
Seafood of course, and also miso ramen, Jinghis Khan...so much to eat!
Otaru and Hakodate are places that are more famous for seafood, so in this article, we will talk about food you should eat in Sapporo, other than seafood.
Warm up with the famous Sapporo Miso Ramen
Ramen is one of many foods that represent Japanese food. But did you know that there are various kinds of ramen that have features of particular areas? Sapporo has actually been a place for good ramen for many years, and their miso ramen with a rich butter taste is very well known as the Sapporo Miso Ramen.
The rich flavor of the miso is irrestible! Miso ramen really warms you up, maybe more than other ramens, so it’s even better to eat them in the winter. During the summer, shio ramen may be more light and easy to eat.
With the gyoza and beer, the calories surely sum up, but it’s satisfying!!
Try the Jinghis Khan, a Hokkaido style grilled meat
If we think Hokkaido, we’ll think of Jinghis Khan.
So what is Jinghis Khan in the first place? If it is grilled mutton or ram, it’s called a Jinghis Khan. Some restaurants have a “Jinghis Khan pot” where you eat them in a certain pot, and other tools you can use to eat them, but they are a type of yakiniku using sheep.
You normally grill the vegetables first, and then grill the meat on top of them.
But some places grill their meat like this on a grate.
Roll the grilled meat in sauce, eat them with rice. The delicious flavor of the meat is filled in your mouth and rice catches every drip of it...I could eat this forever.
I went with three other girls, but we barely ordered vegetables and just continued devouring the meat. Great place for meat lovers.
Some restaurants have Korean-style mutton steak tatare. This is also tasty. Raw or grilled, it’s delicious in both ways. How awesome.
This time we went to Hokkaido for meat, so we didn’t get to visit this place but their sign that said “Raw Oysters for 110 yen” was very eye-catching...
A Limited Espresso drink at the Shin Chitose Airport Starbucks
If you go to Shin Chitose Airport that is the aky gateway to and from Sapporo, we definitely want you to go to Starbucks, that is between the National and International terminals on the 3rd floor.
Hokkaido has many famous confectionery shops that made products like “Shiroi Koibito” and “Royce’”. Starbucks has a limited espresso drink that uses white and dark chocolate, expressing the white snow and the ground that shows as the snow melts.
Very sweet and tasty! You can choose from hot, iced, or frappuccino style.
Hokkaido has countless great food we can’t cover in one article. Make sure you go there with a healthy and empty stomach!!
