A Rice Bowl Topped With Fresh Tuna In Osaka Municipal Central Wholesale Market!

I went to a restaurant called ‘Mayutoro’ in the restaurant area of ‘Osaka Municipal Central Wholesale Market’. You can enjoy a rice bowl with divine fresh tuna that straight came from the market.

Hi there! This is Waka Ossan from Osaka. I’m going to go find another delicious lunch today!

I thought I would like seafood today…and I felt like tuna…so I came to ‘Mayutoro’ inside Osaka municipal Central Wholesale Market!

This market is not well known among tourists so much, but you can go on a tour if you book it first. You can also enjoy the fresh fish in the restaurant area of this market including some sushi restaurants directly owned by wholesalers. I always think such a shame that not many tourists know about it.

Anyway, today’s ‘Mayutoro’ is also one of those restaurants. It’s located near the west gate of the market.

All right, I’m sure I deserve eating delicious tuna for a change!

Normally, I only eat ¥100 sushi at a sushi train restaurant. lol

Here is the lunch menu. Options (from right to left) are as follows.

  • Mguro don (¥1500) - A rice bowl with fresh tuna including Chutoro (medium fatty part) and Nakaochi (tuna backbone flesh)

  • Tekka don (¥1200) - A rice bowl with fresh tuna including only Akami (the lean red part)

  • Higawari teishoku (¥1000) - A combo of the day

Of course, I chose ‘Maguro don’! It is a little expensive ¥1620 including tax, but I can’t complain about that because it comes with Chutoro and Nakaochi. I’m paying the price for two meals and I will make the most of it. I am getting a large portion of rice at no extra charge. It seems that you can get a second bowl of rice for free if you have the combo of the day.

I didn’t have to wait too long for this Maguro don.

It came with miso soup, pickles and a dessert.

The amount of tuna may seem small on a large portion of rice, but it is actually very good!

It was a plenty of good mix of fatty Chutoro, rich and tasty Nakaochi and delicious Akami.

It also had grated yum and an egg yolk on top…so luxurious.

When you pour wasabi and soy sauce into the bowl and eat it, you will realize it that you are actually in Japan! In my case, I think ‘Wooow, I’m glad to be Japanese!!!’ lol

As the restaurant is right in the middle of the market, no wonder the flavor of the tuna is so rich.

It was slightly expensive for a lunch, but I’d accept that to taste such delicious tuna. It was worth going and paying.

There are many more restaurants including a sushi restaurant called ‘Tachibana’ and a casual restaurant called ‘Tenkame’, which is known for a rice bowl with various kinds of fresh seafood. Additionally, you’ll find more bistro-style restaurants and an okonomiyaki restaurant. Wherever you decide to go, they all use fresh food. So, explore and enjoy the delicious food there!
