##National holidays in April
There is only one national holiday in April in Japan.

Date Name and Remarks
April 29th Showa Day

April 29th is the birthday of the Showa Emperor (one era before the Heisei Era), and a day to remember the Showa Era. There is a Japanese calendar and the era changes when the emperors change.

For Japan, the Showa Era was a period of many changes, due to the beginning and end of the war. So the Showa Day is an important holiday to look back and to think about the future of Japan.

There are no particular events on this day, but there are many places that close because of this holiday.

The climate in April (weather, temperature, what to wear, etc.)

In April, it gets pretty warm during the day, and many people change their winter coats to spring jackets. But it still gets cold on mornings and at night. It's necessary to wear something in addition so you can adjust to the temperature.

In places like Hokkaido and the Tohoku area, there's still snow left in April. It's very rare but there are even times when it snows again after the bloom of cherry blossoms due to a sudden fall of temperature. But you will get to see the miraculous collaboration of snow and cherry blossoms if you're lucky.

Festivals and Events in April

1) Hanami, Cherry Blossom Festivals

April is still a hanami season, continuously from March.

But the cherry blossoms start falling in the south including Tokyo in April. They are in full bloom for only a short period of time.

On the other hand, the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom in regions north of Tokyo towards the end of April. It might be a good idea to go to the north if you missed it in Tokyo.

This is Hirosaki Park in the Aomori prefecture. They hold cherry blossom festivals during this season. The beautiful collaboration of the Hirosaki Castle and cherry blossoms will make you speechless.

2) Spring Break

Like we said in the beginning, there are graduation ceremonies in March, and the entrance ceremonies are held in April at the change of the school year.

So from the last week of March to the first week of April is Spring Break in Japanese elementary schools, middle school and high school. During Spring Break, shops and restaurants are open regularly, but popular tourist sites among families like Disney Land and Universal Studios get very crowded, so you might want to keep that in mind.

3) Golden Week that starts from April 29th, Showa Day

We have a holiday called Golden Week in Japan.

This is a peiod where many holidays are concentrated from the end of April to the beginning of May. Many companies and schools make the days between holidays a day off, or make them a paid vacation to have a long holiday. And the first day of this holiday is Showa Day we talked about in the beginning.

During this time, most of the families and couples go out, so the tourist sites and them parks will be unbelievably crowded.

Please check the holidays and how crowded it gets before visiting Japan!
