A cartrip around Izu, Shizuoka (First Half)

This is the first half of a trip blog to Izu, a tourist resort in Shizuoka Prefecture. you’ll find out about a drive from Tokyo and the sightseeing spots such as Shuzenji Onsen (hot spring).

We went driving through Izu peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture!

Izu peninsula is one of the popular and historical driving destinations like Hakone in Kanto region. Driving a beautiful coast line is fantastic, of course the place is rich in hot springs and delicious food, full of sightseeing spots such as Syuzenji and Amagisan.

Let’s go to Izu! We left Tokyo at 5am to avoid holiday traffic.

To avoid holiday traffic, we have to get started really early at 5am. This was the term of Golden week in Japan!

Izu has a good access form Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. Because of that it’s known as the place will cause a heavy traffic during the holiday seasons.

We were expecting crowded road and was told it might take 2 hours maximum to get there where only take 30 minutes when it’s on the normal condition. But the early start was great idea so we didn’t get a bad traffic.

This time, my lovely penguin was traveling together. Of course it’s a plastic penguin.

Take a break at Ebina drive in service area

It was quite smooth on the way, so we decided to make a quick stop at most popular drive-in service area Ebina.

Japanese drive-in service area usually combines with souvenir shops, restaurants and food stands. Visiting service area is quite fun so many people stop on the way to just explore!

It was only 6am in the morning but already a huge crowd.

Ebina service area is quite popular where you can get some fancy souvenirs because of that there are some people who will come even only to get some stuff here. I’m sure after 6am it would be difficult to find a parking space

Now, let’s continue driving.
On the way to Izu, if the weather is good you can see Mt. Fuji on the way.

Now we are in Izu! The first stop is Shuzenji Onsen(hot spring)!

It was about 3 hours drive to get Shuzenji. This is the sign map at a toll parking lot. It is great for tourist that the toll parking lots are quite reasonable around here.

Shuzenji Onsen was really cozy and unlike Hakone it was more quiet and natural but still it’s a historical area. It was a small town you can drive whole area in 2 hours.

Here is a picture of bamboo forest path.

All the bridges on the river were really nice! (This bridge is Kaedehashi means Maple Bridge)

Fresh air in the morning.

It is a good idea to visit touristic temple in the early morning as you can enjoy with less people and fresh air!

This is all for the first part of the story.

I’ll tell you more in the next story "A cartrip around Izu, Shizuoka (Second Half)"about “Joren no Taki” , accommodation, meals and Ito where we top on our way back.
