This blog is about spring sightseeing in Shiraisigawa-tsutumi Hitome Senbonzakura in Miyagi Prefecture, the northeastern region in Japan. This is the most famous Sakura viewing spot in the prefecture.
Today I’d like to introduce Shiraishigawa-tsutsumi Hitome Senbonzakura in Miyagi prefecture, it’s just north suburb of Tokyo. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
Shiraishigawa-tsutsumi Hitome Senbonzakura is a well known cherry blossom avenue along the Shiraishigawa River locates between Ogawaramachi and Shibatamachi in Miyagi prefecture.
Surprisingly, the length of cherry blossom avenue is about 8km long and it is noted for its cherry blossoms as one of the hundred best places in Japan with Funaoka Joushi Koen.
Unfortunatly this time of the season, the traffic was terrible and we couldn’t reach Funaoka Joushi Koen, so instead I’m going to report Ogawaramachi’s cherry blossoms this time(^^;
Here is the picture of Shiraishigawa-tsutsumi Hitome Senbonzakura Avenue. It’s absolutely gorgeous cherry blossom avenue!
Many of the trees in Shiraishigawa-tsutsumi Hitome Senbonzakura are over 80 years old. I got an impression from those tree’s boughs which spread widely over the river bank, there was an overwhelming power exist in its esthetics.
Sakura, sakura, sakura(cherry blossoms) everywhere along the both river banks…
The avenue is easy to walk so it’s great walking along the river bank enjoying the beautiful Sakura under the tree!(^^
Unfortunately the time I visited there was close to sunset so I couldn’t see but if you come earlier you have a chance to see the mountain Zaou Renpou with a bit of snow. Imagine the combination of Shiroishigawa’s cherry blossoms and Zaou Renpu mauntain’s picture, must be really photogenic.
The place you can enjoy magnificent view of both Zaou Renpou and cherry blossoms is call Niragamizeki; it’s just between Ogawaramachi and Shibatamachi.
We sent across the bridge and enjoyed a different angle of the avenue (^^
There is a cherry blossom festival in Ogawaramachi along the river bank. If you are coming by car there is a reasonable parking lot where you can park your car for only ¥500.
There are many food stands around, so it’s possible to have a typical Japanese style “Ohanami” as well, if you like (^^)v
One of the shop stands was souvenir shop from Ogawaramachi’s tourism food product association and they were selling lovely sweets♪
There is also a Yakatabune that you can enjoy river cruise (^^
Yakatabune is a traditional cruise boat where you can enjoy having party with meals, drinks and Karaoke. It must be great experience to get on board and appreciate the view from the boat. This is absolutely unique to Shiraishigawa-tsutsumi Hitome Senbonzakura.
The cherry blossom festival in Ogawaramachi is only 5 minutes walk from Ogawaramachi station (JR Tohoku main line) which is great for someone who doesn’t have a car. If you are coming from Tokyo it’s about 3 hours to get there. If you are taking Shinkansen( a bullet train), it’s about an hour from Tokyo station to Sendai station, then change the train to JR Tohoku main line. From Sndai it’s about 30 minutes to get to Ogawaramachi.
The JR rail line is running parallel to Shiraishigawa-tsutsumi Hitome Senbonzakura Avenue, so it might be a good idea to get off at Ogawaramachi and walk up to the next station Funaoka station!
