Chubu literally means central and it refers to the Central region on Honshu main island of Japan. It covers a large area along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan: Aichi, Fukui, Gifu, Ishikawa, Nagano, Niigata, Shizuoka, Toyama, Yamanashi and Mie. Chubu Centrair International Airport is situated in Aichi Prefecture and is considered as the main international gateway in Chubu region. It is easily accessible from Nagoya, the largest city in the region. In addition, most of the electric power generation and distribution for the region are operated by Chubu Electric Power Company.
