Zenkoji is a magnificent temple situated near Nagano Station in Nagano Prefecture. It has been reverend for over 1400 years and it was considered as a must-visit shrine in a lifetime during the Edo period. It is believed that the temple contains the first Buddha statue ever brought into Japan. It is strictly prohibited to exhibit this statue, but the temple presents a replica of it for a period of 57 days every 7 years, which is known as Gokaicho ceremony. This attracts many visitors and the most recent ceremony was held in 2015.
