Japan has famous and big cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, but there are farming villages all over in country side of the country. For example, Shirakawago in Gifu Prefecture has been listed on the World Heritage list, Niseko in Hokkaido Prefecture where you can find wild silver foxes, and Miyama in Kyoto has a beautiful idyllic view. In most rural areas, people do not speak English so you will probably have a hard time, but rural areas that are popular with tourists are more likely to have a healthy number of English-speaking people.
