Hakodate is the southernmost port town in Hokkaido. Fantastic night views from Mt. Hakodate, historic sites, and fresh seafood...Hakodate is a natural magnet for tourists...lots of them! Hokkaido is located in snowy northern Japan, but Hakodate has the warmest weather in the prefecture. It takes about 3 hours from Sapporo by a train operated by JR (Japan railways), or an hour by an airplane. Also, the Shinkansen (bullet train) is poised to begin service from mainland Japan to Hokkaido in March 2016. Of course there are many hotels available in town for tourists!
